    Basseterre; St. Kitts:
The outlook for St. Kitts Carnival 2007-2008 looks very positive after a very promising launch on Saturday night last, October 6th, at Independence Square.

Thousands turned out to show their support for the annual end of year festival, which coincides with the celebration of Christmas.

According to Allister Williams, Chief Executive Officer of the Festivals Office, it was one of the most impressive launches of the Carnival Celebrations in recent memory and it certainly spoke of the tremendous interest the general public has in it.

“The launch definitely set the right tone for the upcoming Carnival celebrations in December and January and the onus is on us to ride that wave to ensure that we set and maintain a very high standard for Carnival,” Williams said.

He also took the opportunity to appeal to corporate citizens to partner with Carnival Committee, to produce a successful Carnival.

The featured items of the launch were the introduction of the National Carnival Queen Contestants to the public and a mini concert by the popular Calypso Rose of Trinidad and Tobago.

The young ladies flirted with audience and seemingly promised a show of extremely high caliber in December.

Calypso Rose thrilled the crowd with her pulsating calypso tunes and her popular numbers “Fire Fire” and “the Black Pudding” were pure examples of her magnetic crowd appeal.

King Ellie Matt, a popular local calypsonian who won the National Calypso title several times, added some spice to night when he made a surprise appearance. Ellie Matt is a long time mentor of Calypso Rose.

The evening was laced with some cultural presentations also, bearing in mind that culture is the very essence of Carnival.

Evidently, the slogan for this year’s Carnival stands- as the large crowd showed- “It’s gonna be great, National Carnival 2007-2008.”
