Church of God-St.Kitts National Youth Convention

Press Release

BASSETERRE St. Kitts, July 29th 2011 - The Church of God – St. Kitts National Youth Convention started on Sunday, 24th July, 2011 under the theme: “I’m Taking a Stand In Christ”. Each of the five congregations allowed the young people of the church to conduct all aspects of the morning service.

Later that evening all of the congregations met for a joint youth crusade at the St. Peters Church of God.  Bro. Nigel Browne delivered a powerful message which caused all the attendees to do some personal introspection.

The youth crusade continued on Monday 25th and Tuesday 26th with Pastor Anthony Huggins encouraging the congregation to remain steadfast and unmovable, always abounding in the things of God.  A number of young persons made a decision to give their lives to the Lord.

On Wednesday 27th, a platform was created for five young persons to make presentations on the following topics:

    • What causes a young person to commit crime?
    • How does youth crime and violence affect the community?
    • How does youth crime and violence affect the family?
    • How does youth crime and violence affect the local economy?
    • How does youth crime and violence affect the health sector?

This was followed by a presentation by Minister Dawn Walker, an Associate Minister at Great Commission Church of God, Indianapolis, IN, on the churches’ role in the prevention of youth crime and violence.

The presentations were well received followed by a lively open discussion by members of the congregation.

    The convention will continue on:

    • Friday, 29th July, when the young people of the Church of God – St. Kitts would be given an opportunity to display their talent in dance, music, song, poetry, drama, etc. at the St. Paul’s Church of God at 7:30 p.m.  The admission is free.

    • Saturday, 30th July, the young people would be involved in an outreach activity within the community where their church is located.   Some of the community outreach activities would include but not limited to: soup kitchen, clean-up, distribution of food baskets, and free health clinic along with the distribution of religious literature.

    • Sunday, 31st July, the five congregations would congregate at the Basseterre Church of God at 9:00 a.m. for the grand “National Youth Convention Service” where attendees can expect a lively worship session conducted by the young people of the Church of God with melodious selections from the Church of God Combined National Youth Choir under the direction of young musician and song writer Don Christopher, followed by a the spoken word to be delivered by the charismatic and dynamic man of God, Pastor Troy Watson.
