Basseterre, St. Kitts: One man, Beudley Benjamin, affectionately known as “Uncle Tall Boy”, is at the Joseph N. France General Hospital nursing wounds he sustained during a spectacular collision on Wellington Road, in front of the Horsford’s Automotive Department Showroom, on Tuesday afternoon, around 5:30, while another escaped virtually unhurt.
According to eyewitness accounts, “Tall Boy”, who was driving motor car PA 5457, was coming out from Lewis Lane, the street opposite the Showroom, onto the island main road, while a jeep, PA 213, driven by Ivor Jeffers, was coming from an easterly direction heading into Basseterre, along the island main road, when the collision occurred.
One eyewitness noted that the impact of the crash was so spectacular that the motor car was hoisted over the jeep before it came to a stop, wedged on one of the pillars on the sidewalk.
Benjamin was able to pull himself from the wreckage. Blood was about his arm and other parts of his body and he was taken to the Joseph N. France General Hospital for treatment.
The other driver, Jeffers, escaped with no visible injuries.
The motor car, PA 5457, was completely destroyed in the accident while the jeep, PA 213, was extensively damaged at the front.
Police are conducting investigations into the accident.
