(Charlestown; Nevis): Seven representatives from United Kingdom based tour companies visited Nevis yesterday (Wednesday) and had lunch at the Oualie Beach Resort.
The travel agents are in the Federation this week at the invitation of the St. Kitts Tourism Board.
While the visiting travel agents believe the Federation has a lot to offer to potential European tourists, they said awareness creation about the unique features of the Federation has to be promoted.
“The Caribbean is often marketed as a region. Individual islands have to be specific about the uniqueness of their destinations,” Peter Hilton of Travel City Direct said, when asked to comment on why there were not too many tourists coming from Europe.
“Most people who come to St. Kitts and Nevis from the UK come to visit their families and will unlikely stay in hotels,” Hilton said.
The tour operators also said direct and frequent flights to the Federation would increase the tourists’ traffic.
The travel agents travelled from St. Kitts on the Scuba Safaris Ltd boat and were received at the Oualie Beach Resort pier by the General Manager of Oualie Beach Resort, Vaden Jones.
The travel agents were drawn from Travel City Direct, Gulliver’s Sports Travel, Jetlife, Worldwide Travel Solutions, Holidays and Last Minute.
The travel agents are staying at the St. Kitts Marriott Hotel.
