Basseterre, St. Kitts (September 06, 2004): Locals reading the major newspaper publications this weekend will get an idea of St. Kitts and Nevis’ experience at the 2004 Summer Olympic Games.
In an interview with SKNIS, Minister of Sport Hon. Jacinth Henry-Martin details the amazing story of being in Athens, the interaction of the national contingent with other officials and the moments leading up to, and after the 100 and 400 metre races. A number of pictures were also taken to capture the historic moment.
In an excerpt from the interview Minister Henry-Martin addresses the thrill of seeing posters and billboards of Kim Collins in Athens.
"I was pleasantly surprised to see our national track star’s image on at least one high rise building, on the metro, and on billboards advertising Adidas," she said. "It does quite a lot for us as an advertising tool and places Kim at the international star level he deserves to be."
The minister added that "it was quite impressive to see him take his place in such advertisements along with other well-known international sportsmen as (U.S. basketballer) Tim Duncan and (U.S. sprinter and 2000 Olympic 100 metre champion Maurice Greene."
