Ottawa, August 2, 2011: Naanovo Energy Inc., a member of the Naanovo Group of Companies, announced today that it has established an affiliate company in St Kitts and Nevis, called Naanovo-Nicol Energy Limited, and the company has formerly engaged the St. Kitts Government to build a 7 MW WTE plant, utilizing Naanovo’s proprietary WTE/MaaxTM design, to be located on the island of St. Kitts near the town of Basseterre St Kitts.

The proposed WTE facility, to be located near the landfill site at Conaree will be developed by Naanovo-Nicol Energy Ltd., a joint company between Naanovo Energy UK Ltd. and Nicol International Services Trading and Development Inc.

Land has been identified for the project by the Solid Waste Management Corporation (SWMC) and proposals, draft contracts and discussions are in progress with the Ministry of Public Works, Utilities and Energy regarding the leasing of space in the national grid for uploading for sale the electricity generated for subsequent distribution.

In addition to electricity, the project will also produce potable water and cinder blocks. A first of its kind in the Caribbean, the 7 MW WTE project is expected to commence construction by November 2011 and be operational by November 2013. Interest has already been expressed from other islands in the Caribbean for Naanovo’s solution and the company fully expects to explore other opportunities in the Caribbean in the coming months.

When completed, the 7 MW facility will generate enough base-load power to supply 7,000 – 8,000 homes on the island. In replacing the current method of disposing of municipal solid waste into landfills, the new WTE plant will reduce the amount of harmful emissions entering the atmosphere by approximately 119,280 tons of carbon equivalent, which has the same effect a removing 29,820 cars from the road.
