BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, August 4th 2011 (CUOPM) – When students of the St. Paul’s Primary School return to school for the new school term in September, they will have new facilities.

Prime Minister and Parliamentary Representative for St. Christopher Six, the Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas toured ongoing improvement works at the school, accompanied by Minister of Education, Sen. the Hon. Nigel Carty; Permanent Secretary, Mr. Osmond Petty and Headmaster, Mr. John Gumbs and Project Officer, Basic Needs Trust Fund (BNTF), Mr. Calvin Martin.

Dr. Douglas and the touring party looked at the new Computer Room, new Library Room, new Reading Recovery Room and two showers as well as the upgraded Staff Room and Principal’s Office.

Mr. Gumbs said hall which previously housed four classes and one class just recently is to be upgraded with the construction of an indoor stage, tiled floor, improved lighting and upgraded windows.

He said other improvements are to be carried out to give the school a completely new look.

“Then we can look at the possibility of renaming the St. Paul’s Primary School,” said Mr. Gumbs.

During a visit to the school last September, Prime Minister Douglas told students that the school holds great memory for St. Kitts and Nevis.

“It is here at the St. Paul’s Primary School - though originally it was located in a different place - that our first Premier and First National Hero, The Right Excellent Sir Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw attended school.

In fact it is this school, the St. Paul’s Primary School that he had his entire formal education and so this school holds history and memory. It is also the school that I myself attended and having the distinction of being the Second Prime Minister of St.Kitts and Nevis,” said Dr. Douglas, who won re-election as the Parliamentary Representative for a sixth term last year.
