Male 4X100m Relay team departs to compete at Diamond League

SKNAAA Press Release

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, 3rd August 2011 - The St. Kitts & Nevis Amateur Athletic Association is pleased to announce that our 4X100m men relay team who recently won the bronze medal at the Central American and Caribbean Senior Championships in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, journeyed off to London on Tuesday 2nd August 2011.

The team will be supervised by former World Champion Kim Collins who will have dual responsibilities as an IAAF CECS Level II Coach and a member of the National 4X100m male team. The other team mates are Jason Rogers, Antoine Adams, Delwayne Delaney and Brijesh Lawrence.

The men are expected to compete at the Aviva London Grand Prix, Crystal Palace on Saturday 6th August 2011 with hopes of lower their 39.07seconds time which was set at the Championships in Mayaguez and further cement their spot at the Olympic Games in London 2012. It is also the perfect opportunity for the team to gain greater exposure as they will be coming face to face with other world renowned teams such as USA and Jamaica.

From London, they will journey over to Amsterdam where they will be camping until Saturday 20th August 2011, then return home to the federation. The objective is to further build the team’s chemistry and iron out any technical snags that can be a hindrance to their progress. While in Amsterdam, they will also be competing as individuals in meets with the hope of improving on their season’s best and earn individual qualifications for future meets including the Pan American Senior Championship in Guadalajara, Mexico October 2011 and the Olympic Games, London 2012.

The team will be making their debut appearance as a male relay team at the 13th IAAF World Championships in Daegu, South Korea, August 27th – September 4th 2011.
