(Port-of-Spain, Trinidad) --- Former Attorney General and UNC candidate Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj has publicly accused Prime Minister Patrick Manning of holding hush-hush meetings with the senior members of the Congress of the People (COP) in an attempt to sway the result of the elections.

The claim came during UNC Alliance meeting which was held at Charlie King Junction, Fyzabad on Wednesday evening where Mr. Maharaj is quoted as saying, “I want Manning to tell this country about what the meeting was between Sadiq Baksh and Gerald Yetming  on Sunday night… Why is the Congress meeting with the PNM leader Manning at this time?

“Manning knows that the only way for him to get away with the elections is to enter a deal with Congress so that the COP will go ahead and try to split the votes in the marginal constituencies. “

Maharaj further claimed that PNM and COP ‘had the same agenda’ and went on to challenge Manning to a public debate on major issues affecting the public such as poverty and crime. ~~Adz:Right~~

However, in response to this Prime Minister Manning told the media last weekend that the public did not raise the issue of crime with him during his walkabouts. Further, Mr. Sadiq Baksh has publicly denied being part of the secret meeting which allegedly took place on Sunday claiming that he spent the weekend in Tobago only to return to Trinidad on Monday morning.
