    – St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas is in Baltimore, Maryland where he will on Wednesday deliver the keynote address at the Sixth International Conference on Urban Health.

The Conference is being co-hosted by Johns Hopkins and University of Maryland Baltimore, two prestigious institutions in Baltimore.

“We believe that there is no one more appropriate to open this global congress than yourself because of the many contributions you’ve made worldwide in the fight against HIV/AIDS,” said John Hopkins University President, William R. Brody in his letter of invitation to Prime Minister Douglas.

Previous Keynote speakers have included former Director General of the World Health Organization, Gro Brundtland; former Surgeon General of the United States, Joycelyn Elders and Venezuela Minister of Health and Social Development, Francisco Armada.

The International Society for Urban Health chose as the theme for its 2007 International Congress: “Technology, Behaviour, and Urban Health”, with the gaol being to bring together scientists, physicians, practitioners, policymakers and consumer advocates in an interdisciplinary setting to share developments, research, and information to facilitate networking, collaboration, research and policymaking around issues of health in cities both domestically and internationally.

This year’s congress will encourage attendees to consider how technology might help attempts to address inequities in the urban environment as well as stimulate thoughts around the role technology can play in development and behavioural interventions.
