Leader of the Congress of the People (COP) Winston Dookeran
(Port-of-Spain) --- Kidnap threats were allegedly made on Leader of the Congress of the People (COP) Winston Dookeran during a walkabout campaign promotion for this year’s November 5 General Election in Trinidad and Tobago.

The threat came during a walkabout campaign in Laventille yesterday morning while promoting the candidate for the area Mr. David Sinclair who is currently hospitalized after sustaining an attack on Saturday.

Dookeran is quoted as saying, “There was some incident with respect to one or two people who attempted to block us from entering and subsequently I was told because we left that they had intention kidnap us- Sharon and myself.”

Reports indicate that Dookeran along with COP Port-of-Spain candidate Dr. Sharon-Ann Gopal McNicol were in the vicinity of the Sea Lots area when the threats were made.

In response Dookeran has claimed that there is a minimum amount of protection afforded to members of the COP and has requested Police Commissioner Trevor Paul to provide further support for COP candidates.
