    Basseterre, St. Kitts:
A mega tourism venture was announced at a ceremony last Sunday, Nov. 4 at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort’s ballroom with the development of the Christophe Harbour Development at the South East Penninsula.

Present at this ceremony was the Hon. Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, other government ministers a wide section of the private sector, and other special invited guests.

The Christophe Harbour Development was created in conjunction with some of the most recognized brands in the luxury travel industry.

Under the leadership of Kiawah Development Partners, Christophe Harbor is the primary component in St. Kitts’ Southeast Peninsula project, covering most of the land in the area and is comprised of developments by Auberge Resorts and Mandarin Oriental among others in association with local enterprises.

Prime Minister, Douglas said that he was pleased that Auberge Resorts and Mandarin Oriental as well as the investment and Real estate development groups had displayed such tremendous confidence in the island as a location and in its people and government.

He expressed thanks to the past Attorney General (AG) Delano Bart and the present AG Dennis Merchant Q.C. and to their staff.

He also singled out Shawna Brisbane whom he said she was very instrumental in identifying partners, for the government to consider bestowing the great task/honour of developing the South East Peninsula to.

Mr. Mark Harmon, one of the Partners of KHT

“With the help of Auberge Resorts and Mandarin Oriental the best is yet to come for the people of St. Kitts & Nevis,” he said.

In his opening remarks Minister of State with responsibility for Tourism, Ricky Skerritt revealed that while government has never actually owned land at the South East Peninsula, he was pleased to welcome Auberge Resorts and Mandarin Hotels. He said they would help stimulate the now ever increasingly important Tourism industry, in our “life after Sugar” years.

Christophe Harbor will be an incomparable master-planned resort surrounding a mega-yacht harbor featuring an impressive collection of upscale restaurants, shops, boutiques, five-star hotels, oceanfront home sites, villas and a Tom Fazio championship golf course.

Mandarin Oriental, will join five others already in the Caribbean either operational or in developmental stages.  It is expected to open in 2010 to have 125 rooms.

The construction phase is expected to also boost the economy in terms of employment of laborers and skilled tradesmen, as well as sales in aggregate, concrete, lumber and other construction necessaries.

It is expected, that because both the Auberge Resort and Mandarin Oriental names are synonymous with luxury and excellence, the profile of St. Kitts within the Caribbean Tourism Industry will jump quite a few notches.

Auberge Resorts in partnership with Firesky Ventures and The Ocean Foundation has created the St. Kitts Foundation which will award grants to help fund books, uniforms, equipment and other resources for students at a local school.

This was done to show appreciation to the government and people of  St Kitts  for allowing them to develop the stunning coastal site which is the South East Peninsula.
