BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, NOVEMBER 6TH 2007 (CUOPM)
    – A soldier in the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force, who sustained gunshot wounds that left him incapacitated almost two years ago, said the future is more important than the past.

“Sometimes we have to forget about the past and appreciate what you have and build on the present for the future,” said the wheel-chair bound Joseph Bergan.

He made the remark just before singing two selections at Sunday’s Thanksgiving Service in celebration of the Third Anniversary of the Third Term of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party Government at the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Crab Hill, Sandy Point.

In his brief address to the congregation, St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas gave thanks to God for the life of Officer Bergan.
Governor General His Excellency Dr. Sir Cuthbert Sebastian (front right); Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, Speaker of the National Asembly and Minister of Public Works, Transport and Posts, Dr. the Hon. Earl Asim Martin were among the congregation listening to Defence Force soldier Corporal Joseph Bergan

Dr. Douglas described Bergan as “one who has channeled his life in the right direction in service to this nation and as a result has become incapacitated.

Let us remember him in our prayers.”
