Chef Devorn takes culinary arts to Sandy Point High School
 |
Chef Devorn Hodge
|
Enthusiastic students welcomed Chef Devorn Hodge to the Sandy Point High School to make a cultural presentation focused on food.
Chef Devorn, the Ballahoo restaurant’s new chef, spoke to the students about the many emerging opportunities in the culinary field, and the use of local produce in our dishes. He went on to explain the role of culinary art in our culture, and our national dish.
Chef Devorn then set out an array of local produce, and to the students delight, demonstrated cooking a dish of pan seared Mahi mahi with mango salsa, on a fan of christophene, accompanied by a green fig mash.
The students were very appreciative, and after a vote of thanks, participated in tasting a range of snacks the chef had prepared earlier.
We hope this type of activity will inspire more young people to seek careers in the food and beverage industry, and look forward to more of Chef Devorn’s cuisine on the Ballahoo dinner menu.
The Ballahoo is a long time member of the St Kitts and Nevis Hotel and Tourism Association. The Associations Manager Michael Head commented: I applaud Ballahoo for this initiative and hope that more establishments follow the lead taken by Chef Devorn Hodge and the Ballahoo.
