BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS (SEPTEMBER 18TH 2004) – The Federation’s Independence baby, Kaya Archibald, arrived home Thursday night to celebrate the 21st Anniversary of Independence.
Ms. Archilbald, who was the first baby born on September 19th 1983, night St. Kitts and Nevis became an independent nation, hails from Cayon, St. Kitts, but lives in New York.
She was greeted at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport by Parliamentary Representative for Constituency #8 and Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Cooperatives, Lands and Housing, the Hon. Cedric Liburd; Chairman of the Independence Celebrations Committee, Mr. Stanley Franks Jr. and her parents, Mr. Tony Archibald and Ms. Grace Huggins.
Ms. Archibald, who turns 21 on Sunday (Independence Day), accompanied by Minister Liburd and her sister, Kristal Archibald, paid a courtesy call on St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister, Dr. the Hon. Denzil L. Douglas.
Dr. Douglas welcomed Ms. Archibald home and hoped she will enjoy her 21st Birthday as the Federation celebrates a similar significant milestone. The Prime Minister also used the opportunity to congratulate Ms. Archibald on her achievements to date and wished her successful in her future pursuits.
“It is my wish to have an outstanding birthday,” Ms. Archibald, who attended the Cayon Primary School before moving to live in New York, where she attended High School.
Ms. Archibald obtained an Associate Degree in Para Legal Studies and is presently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Devry University in New York. She works part time at a New York law firm as a Legal Coder and at Bloomindales.
“Stay focus. Listen. Keep a positive attitude,” were words of advice, Ms. Archibald had for young people in St. Kitts and Nevis.
Guest of the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis, Ms. Archibald is staying at the posh Royal St. Kitts Marriott Beach Resort. She said she intends to attend all the official events to mark the 21st Anniversary of Independence including the State Service on Sunday; the Ceremonial Parade on Monday and the Official Independence Ball hosted by His Excellency the Governor General, Dr. Sir Cuthbert Sebastian at Government House on Monday night.
