BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, NOVEMBER 13TH 2007 (CUOPM
) – Parking will again be allowed on Fort Street, but there are some conditions.

Minister of State for Information, Sen. the Hon. Nigel Carty said Cabinet on Monday revisited the parking policy after inviting suggestions from the public about how to improve the use of the street.

He said that Cabinet examined the recommendations of the public and agreed that between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. (during the day time) 30-minute parking will be permitted on the eastern side of Fort Street only.

“This is intended to facilitate persons doing business in Basseterre to find convenient short term parking during the day-time period,” said Minister Carty.

He also disclosed that between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. (that is during the day time), there will be no parking on the western side of Fort Street.~~Adz:Right~~
Minister Carty said that unlimited parking will be allowed on both sides of Fort Street between 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.

He said that new parking policy will take effect as soon as the traffic department is able to erect the appropriate signs to indicate the parking patterns.

“Once again, the government is grateful to the public for sharing useful suggestions on the Fort Street Parking Policy,” said Minister Carty.
