    – St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Denzil L. Douglas expressed satisfaction with the progress being made on the new community center now under construction in Sandy Point.

Dr. Douglas, who toured the construction site on Wednesday afternoon, said works seem to be progressing quite smoothly and the community centre should be completed by January of next year for use by the people of Sandy Point.

“It is not only a typical community center, it will also provide other facilities such as a library, a computer lab and of course in times of emergency it will be used as a hurricane shelter. So I am very proud with what I am seeing here in Sandy Point with regard to the new community center that is being built,” said Prime Minister Douglas, who scoffed at opposition criticism that the center is being built in the mountains.

“Nothing could be out of the way here in Sandy Point and I am sure that the young people in particular as well as the general public in Sandy Point will find proper use of this facility,” said Prime Minister Douglas.

The new community center is being constructed at a cost of just over one million East Caribbean dollars and is being financed by the Republic of China on Taiwan.

The friendly Asian nation also financed the new community centers in Old Road and New Town.

The Republic of China is also financing the community centers now under construction in Conaree and Cayon and those earmarked for Tabernacle and Challengers.

Prime Minister Douglas also toured some 30 Super Low houses under construction in Farms, Sandy Point and the newly-built and occupied Day Car Center.
