Nubian Arts Productions lifts spirits!

By: Lorna Callender, SKNVibes

    'Nubian Arts Productions' lifts spirits!

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - At the end of a week of doom and gloom, 'Nubian Arts Productions' lifted the spirits of its audience with a timely message - reminding us of our ability to rise from the valley of despair to achieve fulfillment at the top of the mountain RANGE.

The combination of dance, drama and song made the production an enriching experience and each art form scaled the heights of excellence in its own right.

Foremost among the presentations of the night were the beautifully modulated and harmonious voices of RANGE- a six member singing group whose acapella renditions have thrilled audiences whenever they have appeared on stage.

Playwright Keisha Isaac skillfully scripted a production featuring the challenges each of these men had to undergo on their life’s journey. By doing this, she was able to highlight the individual voices of the singers as they poured out their grief or pain in appropriate well-rendered songs.

This very successful musical production was presented at ECCB’s Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium on Friday August 19th to an audience that was definitely impressed and uplifted by the skills of the artistes.

The second production which should have taken place on the following evening had to be postponed as a result of inclement weather, so those who have not yet seen it should not miss the chance of experiencing this local production which was of a pleasingly high standard.

Much of the success of the production could also go to the smooth flow of the messages and the wry comments between scenes that enabled quick changeover of scenes and stories.

Obviously of a minimalist mind, the playwright/stage manager allowed the messages to come forth with the minimum of stage props which often tend to distract.

Attention to detail in body language was also a pleasing highlight. Characters who did not have to say one word said everything simply by the way they moved across the stage and the way they dressed. The audience picked up these markers instantly.

The CFBC Dancers and the individual dancers who gave very interpretive performances were also great.

But I need say no more. Go and have your spirits lifted by attending the second production of -From the Valley to the Mountain RANGE by Nubian Arts Productions. You will not regret it.

One drawback, however, was the absence of a programme. Hence it is not possible at this juncture to name names and applaud individuals.

However, Kudos must go to playwright Keisha Isaac for giving us a heartwarming and psyche-cally fulfilling experience and of course to the singing group RANGE who gave a wonderful account of themselves. You have done us proud.
