PM Douglas leads CARICOM delegation to Third CARICOM-SICA Summit in El Salvador

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, August 19th 2011 (CUOPM) – Chairman of the Caribbean Community and Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, the Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas is leading a delegation from the regional integration movement to the Third CARICOM-SICA Summit and Second Meeting of Foreign Affairs and SICA in El Salvador.

     

    Dr. Douglas, who is accompanied  by members of the CARICOM Bureau of the Conference of Heads of Government, Grenada’s Prime Minister Hon. Tilman Thomas and Suriname’s President, His Excellency Desi Bouterse is meeting with the SICA delegation which is comprised of the Presidents of El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.

     

    The meeting of Officials and Ministers of Foreign Affairs over the last few days ended with the Summit of Heads on Friday.

     

    The Caribbean Community leaders and their Central American counterparts discussed ways of strengthening relations between the two regions.

     

    Members of the Central American Integration System (SICA) and Prime Minister Douglas and his delegation discussed a wide range of areas including sustainable development, human and social development, trade and investment promotion, air and maritime transportation and security co-operation.

     

    The St. Kitts and Nevis delegation was led by the Federation’s Washington-based Permanent Representative to the Organisation of American (OAS) and Ambassador to the United States, Her Excellency Jacinth Henry-Martin.

     

    Ambassador Martin represented Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Sam Condor during the meetings of officials, the meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs and the Summit.

     

    The meetings were also attended by the new CARICOM Secretary General, His Excellency Ambassador Irwin LaRocque.
