‘Let’s go clubbing!…Which club/event spot suits you best?

Club Kactus
By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE famous saying that all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy means that we must all set aside some time to play; those who love to party and crave a good event each weekend or every now and again, must know what clubs or venues fit their style.

From that backdrop, SKNVibes has compiled a number of places that are great for partying and has included as well the features one can find at these spots.

First take a look at the Frigate Bay Strip, which is an open environment that sees just about everyone in all age ranges and groups of all types.  However, there are some bars that will have mature crowds while others will have the young folks kicking up a storm.

Not too far away there is the Fusion at the Sugars Complex, which once ago only featured DJ’s but now some promoters have ‘upped’ their game and have been attaching a closed tent to the building to accommodate a band on the outside while keeping the DJs inside.

This venue is in a safe environment and not only has a well stocked bar available but also a kitchen in the event that patrons get hungry.

When it comes to space, Club Kactus is without a doubt the biggest club venue in St. Kitts. This club has a VIP room, three bars and a huge open space outside with two stages – which makes this location not only good for club events but also for stage shows. So if you are hosting an event and expecting hundreds to turn out, this would be the ideal selection.

The air conditioned dance floor area is designed with disco balls and glow-in-the-dark paintings on the walls, giving the room just enough light to shine on rotating waistlines and fancy dance moves.

In the heart of the capital of the island there is the famous Potential - great for after work hanging out. This venue is mostly filled with young people and a wide cross section of men. It directly faces the police station so many people feel safe in this area and it is within walking distance if you live in the surrounding neighborhoods.

The venue is very spacious but ladies, it is not a place for heels as there are gravel stones all over the ground which makes it difficult to walk in stilettos.

This next venue is some yards away and is also a big buzz for the younger folks. This upper level venue named Ma Pau, on Porte Zante, not only has accessible parking but inside, its sound proof room possesses a stage that is tremendous for performances and photo shots, as the photo area is great.

It is also fully equipped with two bars, one inside and the other situated outside on a porch that comes in handy for a time-out from the heat, congestion and loud music.

On the most famous street in Basseterre – Fort Street - sits Comfort Zone, a cozy venue where one can enjoy drinks or partying on the dance floor of the upstairs building. This spot was recently reopened under this name and usually stimulates a young crowd.

Over at the eastern side of the island just outside of Conaree in a little village called Canada Estates is Club NV. It is a good club for DJs but though bands have played at this venue on many occasions it is not the place for a band, as the dance floor is not very big and can become quite a sweat box.

The outside porch on the other hand helps to relieve some of the overcrowding from the inside. Because Club NV is situated just a little off the main road up through a dirt track with many stones and pot holes it is better to drive up to the entrance.

Now taking a look at De Green Valley Pub situated in Cayon. This venue is also not such a good spot for ladies to go out in their best stilettos. However it is very spacious and the open atmosphere makes it nice and breezy.

A fabulous feature of this venue is that there are many areas to choose as your ‘grounded spot’ for the night and it can be on the upper or lower level. There is also a kitchen and more than one bar area.

On the other side of the island in Old Road there is Sprat Net which is a famous restaurant but also houses many events in its wooden structure, flag decor roomy atmosphere.

In Sandy Point the G-Spot popularly known as the ‘Pleasure Zone’ has recently renovated the location so that there are two areas where previously there was one; one part for the DJs and the other for the bands, giving patrons twice the pleasure for one price.

This venue also has a stage and a built on upper deck, almost like a little tree house if you desire a little privacy with not too many people to invade your space.

Finally, there is De Pumpkin in Newton Ground. Though it is on the far side for those people travelling from Basseterre, this venue still manages to be one of the top party spots since its reopening.

It possesses an additional building inside of the venue which is used as the DJ area while the bands rock out on the outside. There are also bars inside and out for the convenience of patrons.

However, this is not the best place to be when it rains, as the water settles into a pool making it difficult to walk back and forth.

Now that we have shed some light on the various venues, this  should help you make more informed choices as you will know which best suit your needs and style when going out to party.
