Press Release

BASSETERRE St.Kitts, August 24th, 2011 -  The 14th Annual Emancipation Concert at Brimstone Hill, held on Sunday 14th August received a high turnout and there has been much positive feedback from members of the general public.

On behalf of the Council of Management and Staff of the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park Society I wish to thank all those without whom this event could not have been the success it was.

First and foremost, homegrown reggae superstar, calypsonian and producer Masud Sadiki, for accepting my invitation to lend his skill and experience to the production of the concert.

To all the artistes and folklore acts who performed, thank you for once again proving that out of a people  who were brought to the Caribbean in bondage emerged the most beautiful, diverse and rich cultural heritage to be found anywhere on the planet.

To the members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force who ensured that on a beautiful Sunday evening we could celebrate our Emancipation in a peaceful environment, a heartfelt thank you.

Several other individuals and organizations contributed to the success of this event, namely The Frigate Bay Development Corporation; Vallie’s Tent Rental; Grey’s Island Excursions (Mr. Thenford Grey); Skyline Canteen (Ian and Merlin Saunders and their staff); ZIZ Radio and Television; WINN FM and the Visitor Channel.

Of course you the members of the public who came up to the Hill and responded so enthusiastically to all the performances were the biggest reason for the Concert being such a hit.

Last but by no means least the hardworking staff of the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park Society who behind the scenes put their efforts and talents into making all of the outreach activities of the Brimstone Hill Society successful and meaningful ones.
