Godwin Ghaut native Ms. Tamara Herbert.
(Port-of-Spain, Trinidad) --- “The vicious cycle of crime and poverty can be broken through the avenues of education and enlightenment.”

These were the words of 21 year-old Tamara Herbert originally from Godwin Ghaut in St. Kitts who is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science (BSc.) with an Accounting Special at the University of the West Indies in Trinidad.

Ms. Herbert attended the Verchilds High from the years 1998-2003. She then went on to the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC) from 2003-2005. She pursued studies in the fields of Law, Accounting, Computer Science, Literatures in English, Communication Studies and Caribbean Studies.

After her tenure at CFBC she was employed as an Accounts Clerk at the TDC Group of Companies which is located on Fort Street, Basseterre.

“I learnt a lot of things from this experience such as coping under pressure, working with people,  appreciating different personalities and understanding the practical aspect of day to day business operations”, said Herbert about her experience at the TDC Group of Companies.

After her stint of employment Ms. Herbert made the decision to further her studies and chose to attend the University of the West Indies with a view to further her education and improve her marketability in the workforce.

“The UWI experience has been fulfilling yet hectic. I am trying to cope with the diverse cultures which I have encountered. The workload is sizeable yet achievable. At the end of my tenure I would like to be a certified professional accountant.

~~Adz:Right~~ “I am also interested in designing programs because I find it to be an enjoyable and stimulating experience. In the future I want to be able to create my own accounting software and market that product to the Caribbean and wider world”, said Herbert.
The young aspiring entrepreneur attributes her interest in Accounting to an inclination for the subject of Mathematics and further hopes to make a meaningful contribution to the Federation of St. Kitts, Nevis.

She continued, “Seeing that our Federation seems to lack accountants I am hoping to open a new firm once I have gained my license as a Certified Public/Professional Accountant (CPA). It is my intention that the firm will be productive in providing competitive and efficient accounting services.”

In ending the interview Ms. Herbert urged young people to think seriously on furthering their education to enhance themselves as individuals and also to enable them to make a meaningful contribution to their country.

“Your confidence is your capacity! This means you have the capacity to achieve anything once you put your mind into it but without confidence you would not be able to go on and implement what you have in mind. Nothing in life can be achieved without sacrifice. Education is the key!” said Herbert conclusively.
