    AA’s direct flight from New York commences

    (Basseterre; St Kitts)
    The inaugural American Airlines flight, direct from New York’s J.F.K International, landed at the Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw International just a  few minutes after 3 p.m., on Sunday, November 18th, signaling the dawn of a new era in air traffic in the twin island state. 

    As the 757 airplane taxied to a stop alongside the terminal building a collective breath of anticipation was let out.
     
    A brief ceremony was held at the VIP Lounge at the airport to commemorate the milestone as well as to welcome the first passengers and dignitaries that were onboard which included Minister of State with responsibility for Tourism, Culture and Sports, Ricky Skerritt and American Airline officials.
     
    Deputy Prime Minister, Sam Condor spoke at the ceremony and described the arrival as a milestone which will certainly bring several benefits to the Federation.
     
     “There will be several benefits, including increase visitors arrival over time, the ideal foundation on which tourism stakeholders can create business for themselves and further attraction of more investment opportunities to the Federation, as we demonstrate to the world our desire to grow and to develop our Tourism industry here,” he said.
     
    He also mentioned that the direct flight was highly anticipated and described the occasion as one that also highlights the upcoming festive season of Carnival and Christmas.
     
    ~~Adz:Right~~  “This flight has added to the air of festive anticipation and enthusiasm surrounding what is the largest festive season for us- Christmas and Carnival,” he said.
     
    “Christmas and Carnival, Christmas has come early for us, thank you ‘Santa Clause’,” he added.
     
    He also noted that American Airlines is firmly established in the international market and is reputed to be highly dedicated and reliable and that his Government treasures the partnership with this dynamic company.
     
    “We enthusiastically welcome this opportunity for the deepening of this shared trust, and corporation and excellent service,” he said.
     
    “We are confident that this new hub out of New York, will give travelers value for money, seamless booking and flights and AA’s unique commitment to customer service that will ultimately enhance this destination,’ Minister Condor indicated.
     
    Capt. R. Marcellari of the AA JFK flight said that as they approached the runway for landing he and his crew could not bypass how beautiful St. Kitts is.
     
    “We will definitely be back to with our families,” he said.
     
    Presentations of appreciation were also given to the Captain and his crew on behalf of the Federation for the inaugural flight.
     
    The AA flight will be operating two direct flights out of JFK Airport to the Federation, on Wednesdays and Sundays.
