    206 Graduate from CFB College

    Basseterre, St. Kitts: Two hundred and six students from the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College successfully graduated from the institution in the nineteenth Commencement Ceremony, held at the school’s compound yesterday afternoon, November 20th.
     
    The 206 graduands, 131 females and 75 males, represent six Divisions at the CFBC- Arts, Sciences and General Studies, Adult and Continuing Education, Health Sciences, Hospitality Studies, Teacher Education and Technical and Vocational Education Management Students.
     
    The monumental ceremony was held under the patronage of the Acting Governor General, Mr. Edmund Lawrence, and the operative theme was “Promoting Sustainable Development through Self- Empowerment.”

    The 2007 graduating class was led by Kenrod Roberts, of the Arts, Science and General Studies Division, who achieved six Grade 1s out of a possible 7 and had the highest grade point average (GPA). In total, Roberts has a total of eleven CAPE units, which effectively qualifies him as a candidate for the State Scholarship.
     
    A number of other students receive special mention for their academic success as well. Among those mentioned were Gregory Mills, the student with the second best GPA; Elizabeth Jong, the National TVET Scholar from the Hospitality Studies Department of the Division of Technical and Vocational Education and Management Studies; Joanna Prentice, the Runner up National TVET Scholar; Shenelle Pemberton who had the highest GPA in Teacher Education and she was also the Best Primary School Teacher ; Nicola Thompson, who had the second highest GPA and was the best Secondary Education Teacher and Glenroy Buchanan, the lone male graduand from Teacher Education.

     Additionally, Ruschelle Parris achieved the highest GPA in Health Sciences while her counterpart, Melissa Huggins was second runner- up.
     
    In the Adult and Continuing Education Division Alicia Nicholls was commended for returning the best CAPE results and Lilia Liburd turned in the best CSEC results.
     
    Acting Principal of the CFBC, Mrs. Sonia McPhail, took the opportunity to commend all the students who graduated and made special mention of those who topped their various Divisions. ~~Adz:Left~~

    She revealed that the 206 graduands represented a 67 % completion rate- a significant percentage of the student enrollment of 306.
     
    “This is no mean accomplishment, especially when you consider the challenging nature of programs offered here at the CFBC, at all levels,” Mrs. McPhail noted.
     
    During her remarks, the Acting Principal also expressed the hope that the CFBC would evolve from a community college to the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant Unviversity.
     
    Mrs. Mcphail noted admitted that such a step would be challenging but was quick to point out that it was not insurmountable, as the CFBC continues to plough forward to achieve its mission of “fostering the development of responsible, self- sufficient citizens by delivering a range of academic, professional and vocational courses and programmes that reflect the highest values and standards and which prepare students to make life long contributions to their community.”
     
    The featured address for the occasion was delivered by Professor Frank Mills, of the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI), who spoke glowingly of women and utilized the opportunity to encourage women to continue excel and implored them to be pioneers or join the effort to put women on par wit men.
     
    He denounced acts of exploitation against women and stated that it was a shame that even is the 21st century women have been taken advantage of.
     
    Professor Mills expressed his joy at seeing so many women graduate from the CFBC and noted thathe anticipated that they would positively change the developmental landscape in St. Kitts and Nevis and the region.
     
    Minister of Education, Hon. Sam Condor was also on hand to extend congratulations to the gradaunds.
     
    “Go now, to further prepare yourselves to contribute meaningfully, in diverse ways, to the dynamic process of National Development,” The Education Minister said.
     
    The 206 graduands all received their “graduation paper” from presenter Lawyer Jihan Williams.
     
    The ceremony was attended by a number of Federal Government Ministers , distinguished guests, parents and other proud family members.
