Hodge disclosed during the eleventh sitting of the fourth session of the First House of Assembly that the Purcell Estate Community Centre is now completed and a handover ceremony is expected in the coming days.

His response was to a question posed by the leader of the opposition the Honourable Dr. D. Orlando Smith to provide an update on the status of the community centre.“The Purcell Estate Community Centre construction is completed. The Ministry is now finalising the security fencing for the compound before turning it over to the Ministry of Health and Social Development who will be responsible for its management,” Minister Hodge said.

Exterior works for the fencing are being provided by Mr. Elsworth Percival of S&P Construction and Welding. Government signed a contract for $41,039.00 for the fabrication and installation of the metal railing, the entry gate and the sliding gate for the community centre.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Labour Mr. Ronald Smith Berkeley said such works were necessary and had to be completed before the centre could be turned over to the Ministry of Health, who holds responsibility for management of community centres in the Territory.

The Purcell Estate Community Centre is expected to accommodate the senior citizens programme in addition to other community programmes in the area. It is intended to be used by the residents to enhance their quality of life.

The Centre was constructed by Mr. Greg Hodge of G-Unit Construction and was completed under the supervision of Project Manager Mr. Edwin Adams of Edwin Adams Architects Limited.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Labour assisted the Ministry of Health and Social Development in the Construction of the Purcell Estate Community Centre to cater to the social needs of residents of the Purcell community.
