Lorilie Connor appointed gender affairs coordinator

    ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, August 31st, 2011  – His Excellency the Governor, acting on the advice of the Public Service Commission, (PSC) has approved the appointment of Ms. Lorolie Connor to the position of Gender Affairs Coordinator, Office of Gender Affairs in the Ministry of Health and Social Development.

    Ms. Connor, whose appointment became effective July 4, 2011 holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work with a minor in Criminal Justice from the Atlantic Union College, Massachusetts, United States of America in 1991 and a Masters of Arts degree in International Child Welfare from the University of East Anglia, Norwich England, United Kingdom.

     

    Ms. Connor joined the Public Service on January 13, 1992 as a Social Worker assigned to the Department of Social Development. She was reassigned to the Rainbow Children Home when the facility was opened in 1997 where she served as the Superintendent until taking up her appointment as Coordinator.

     

    As Coordinator, Ms. Connor is responsible for developing and implementing a National Gender Policy; sensitising the public service and the Territory to gender issues; reviewing policies, programmes and activities with a view to integrate gender in the Territory; promoting the legal framework to support and enhance the welfare of women, facilitating the implementation of the United Nation Convention for the elimination of discrimination against women and other human rights instruments as they relate to gender among other duties.
