BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Puerto Rico National Football team that is scheduled to go up against the Federation’s National team tomorrow night (Sep. 2) at Warner Park arrived at the Robert L Bradshaw International Airport this morning.

Both teams would compete in the CONCACAF Zone Round One for the 2014 FIFA World Qualifiers to be held in Brazil.

The team was welcomed by members of the St. Kitts/Nevis Football Association (SKFNFA) including its President, Anthony Johnson.

Johnson told the team he hopes that even though they are on the island specifically for the game, they would also find time to enjoy the beauty and hospitality of the island and its people in particular.

He noted that this game is extremely important for both teams and they are expecting a very high standard of football tomorrow night.

Johnson stressed the fact that only one team could and would win.

“It is important for us as a Federation to advance and I believe you have the same view. So, with that in mind, I believe it is the basis for a very health and competitive game, and that is what we are looking forward to,” he added.

Johnson expressed the hope that the game would be played in the spirit of fair play and that both teams express themselves with discipline.

“We asked that the country would go out and look at the game which promises to be a very excited night,” he said.

Johnson congratulated the Puerto Rico team for making it that far and to look forward to a very good competition.

Rene Echevarria, Manager of the Puerto Rico Natiaonal team, told this media house that this game means the world to them and it is what they have been waiting for, adding that they are very excited about the opportunity.

He said they are very grateful for the hospitality and encouraged his players to respect each other and respect the St. Kitts team and everybody on the island.

St. Kitts, Puerto Rico, Canada and St. Lucia are part of Group D in the CONCACAF Zone, where each team will play home and away games.
