Nevis’ Concern Citizen Movement (CCM) Government on Thursday, September 30 marked another significant developmental milestone as they broke ground for the commencement of a playfield in the Ramsbury area.

He told the gathering that included Minister of Tourism, the Hon Malcolm Guishard, Cabinet Secretary, Mr. Oban Lawrence, principal, staff and students of the Charlestown Primary School, and residents of the area, that part of his philosophy when he campaigned for the elective office was, that he fell in love with politics and that it was his conviction that representative politics provided the perfect avenue through which an individual could be of greater service to his constituents.

He attributed that to the fact that, as area representative he was fulfilling one of his campaign promises.  He thanked the Nevis Island Administration for investing and having brought some 3.5 acres of the land to house the playfield, not only for residents in the area but for the students of the Charlestown Primary School.

He noted that the government had shown its commitment and dedication to the development of the youths on the island when it purchased the land in excess of EC$750,000.  He also thanked the construction company contracted for the job, National Piling a subsidiary of M A Kharafi and Sons.

Perkins, who lived in the Ramsbury, Craddock Road area all his life, and speaking as a parent of the Charlestown Primary School, took the opportunity to call on the rest of the parents and the parents teachers association to make use of the playfield which is being provided for their children and by extension themselves.

Minister of Tourism, the Hon Malcolm Guishard gave brief remarks, saying that it was his pleasure to participate in the groundbreaking ceremony for this long awaited and much needed playfield for this area.

He expressed that it would not take long to be completed and that once it has been completed, the young children at the primary school and the entire community should use the facilities provided.  He hoped that it would be used wisely and that youth groups would spring up so that young people would really participate the wholesome activities and conduct themselves, as they ought to.

Permanent Secretary of Education, Mr. Elvin Bailey and Director of Youth and Sports, Mr. Jefferson Wallace also gave brief remarks.  Mr. Kevin Barrett, teacher of the Charlestown Primary School chaired the ceremony while Pastor Maynard of the Shiloh Baptist Church delivered the invocation.
