    December 11th is Budget Day
     
    St. Kitts and Nevis' Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas presenting the 2007 Budget Address in the National Assembly last December
    BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, NOVEMBER 30TH 2007 (CUOPM)
    – Tuesday 11th December is Budget Day in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.
     
    Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, the Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas will lay on the Table, the Report of the Director of Audit on the Accounts for 2006 and the Draft Estimates for 2008, before introducing the Appropriation Act, 2008 which provides for the services of St. Kitts & Nevis for the financial year 1st January 2008 to 31st December 2008.
     
    Following the second reading of the Appropriation Act 2008, Prime Minister Douglas will present the Budget Address in his capacity as Minister of Finance.
     
    Dr. Douglas will review the international, regional and national economic developments and give an insight into his St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Government’s expectations for the tourism, agricultural, non-agricultural, industrial development, information and technology, financial services and other sectors.
     
    He will also provide information on the budgetary allocations for the various ministries, review the outcome of the previous financial year and give a fiscal prospect for 2008.
     
    In keeping with his policy of good governance and transparency, Prime Minister Douglas hosted the Annual National Consultation on the Economy ahead of the Budget.        ~~Adz:Right~~
     
    Over 200 delegates drawn from the private sector, community groups, sports organisations, small businesses, public corporations, political parties and trade unions attended the one-day exercise at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort.
     
    The consultation on the economy which is in keeping with the policy of the Denzil Douglas Labour Party Administration to discuss matters of national importance, is geared towards facilitating a comprehensive consultative process between the private sector, civil society and the public sector for sharing perspectives and recommendations on the economy prior to the presentation of the annual Budget Session of the National Assembly.
     
    The St. Kitts and Nevis National Assembly will continue debate on the National Assembly Elections Amendment Bill, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. on December 7th. A new Sitting will begin at 1 p.m. that same day.
