CIC Christmas Luncheon on December 10th
~~Adz:Left~~A spokesperson for the St. Kitts and Nevis Chamber of Industry and Commerce on Wednesday confirmed that Jamaican attorney and Executive Director of the Jamaica Fair Trading Commission (JFTC), Ms Barbara Lee, will deliver the feature address at the organisation’s Annual Christmas Luncheon Meeting scheduled for Monday, December 10, 2007 at Marshall’s Restaurant at Horizons Villa development in Frigate Bay. Ms Lee was invited to address the Chamber’s membership on the proposed launch of the OECS Fair Trading Commission (FTC) which, according to the CARICOM Secretariat, should take place within the first half of 2008.
“Among the matters to be addressed by Ms Lee are the mandate, scope and mission of the OECS’ FTC, the Jamaican experience with a FTC, and the business implications of a FTC establishment. It is also expected that Ms Lee would shed some light on how the operationalisation of the OECS’ FTC would impact on our Federation’s existing Sale of Goods Act, and the Consumer Affairs legislation that was passed in 2003”, the Chamber spokesperson added.
In discussing Ms Lee’s career profile the Chamber’s spokesperson indicated at the Jamaican barrister had held a number of illustrious positions in Jamaica, including Director of Legal Services and Enforcement of the Jamaica Securities Commission; Chief Legal Counsel of the Revenue Board of Jamaica; Associate in the law firm of Raphael Codlin & Company; and Assistant Manager in the Legal Division of the National Export-Import Bank of Jamaica Ltd. Ms Lee has also been renowned as one of Jamaica’s leading stage actresses. Her current role at the helm of the JFTC includes (a) investigation and evaluation of evidence regarding anti-competitive business practices; (b) enforcement of the Fair Competition Act; and (c) provision of advice and recommendations to the JTFC’s Commissioners and the portfolio Minister. Ms Lee has also chaired and moderated a number of international conferences on competition that have been staged by the Commonwealth Secretariat, the United Nations Conference on Trade & Development (UNCTAD), and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
