BASSETERRE St. Kitts – HUNDREDS of parents and guardians were, on Saturday (Sept. 3), given some much needed relief with their back to school affairs from LIME’s Skool Aid.

The Back to School Fair was held at LIME’s Sports Club Grounds at Needsmust featuring services catering to the needs of students.

The event kicked off at 9:00 a.m. with a motorcade lead by LIME’s General Manager, David Lake. It included the LIME girls as well as Judy Dupont, the LIME sponsored, second runner-up for the 2010/2011 Miss National Carnival Queen Pageant.

Patrons wasted no time in getting to the Fair as upon conclusion of the motorcade, which ended at the grounds, many persons were already there.

Parents and guardians had the luxury of getting free vision checks for their children from the experts of Eye Care Express as well as free dental checkups from the New Era Dental professionals.

Barbers and hair braiders were also on hand to give free haircuts and braiding services to the children.
LIME’s Marketing Manager, Darien Belle described the Fair as successful in achieving its purpose. He commended the persons who provided the free services for a job well done.

“The Skool Aid event was a huge success. We were able to make things a little easier on parents and guardians by offering a number of free services in an effort to help them get their children ready for school.

“I would like to commend Young Money Barber Shop, New Era Dental, Eye Care Express, and the hair braiders. They went above and beyond their call of duty and extended their hours to accommodate all who were there. They really did a good job,” he said.

The telecoms provider offered major discounts on selected phones from as low as $35.
Other specials included a free school bag with the purchase of any handset on special, and those persons who signed up for internet service now have the privilege of paying only $75 per month for one year.

Specials also included a chance to win a $500 voucher after topping up $25 or more. This promotion is ongoing and a total of six winners will be announced.

Many persons took advantage of the long awaited favourite - Double Bubble! The real Double Bubble, as promised by LIME was available only at the Fair, and persons flocked the stands to purchase the double bubble cards.

An amusement park provided all-day entertainment for the children. They enjoyed bouncing castles, pull wagons, horse rides, bicycles and scooters.

DJ Wet Dut provided musical entertainment from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. after which the sweet sounds of the Grand Master Band provided live entertainment. The Fair ended with a concert featuring local artists including Pinocchio and Bubbles, Shakal, Pepper Ranks, Infamus, Jah Fire, Silk and Footsy.

Belle said that the entertainment provided was just right for the event as the children were able to relate wholeheartedly to it.

“I would like to highlight the fact that the entertainment was appropriate for the event. Grand Masters played songs that were suitable for the children’s ears and they even had some of the children join them on stage while they performed. All of the entertainers went out of their way to not only entertain the children, but involved them in their performances as well,” he explained.
