BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, OCTOBER 4TH 2004 (CUOPM) – Three of the four 1.5 mega watt Containerised Units have been commissioned.
This was disclosed Monday afternoon by Mr. David Maynard of the Needsmust Power Station.
He told the Communications Unit of the Office of the Prime Minister that the third unit went on line last Saturday October 2nd.
Mr. Maynard said the commissioning of the unit last Saturday morning brings the available generating capacity to 23.5 megawatts, 4.5 megawatts above the maximum daily requirement of 19 megawatts.
A recent outage was experienced when the Mirrlees 8MW engine tripped was traced to the indiscriminate activation of a micro switch causing the engine circuit breaker to open and thereby isolating the engine from the rest of the system and hence the cascading effect.
