Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal, OBE, who is also the minister with responsibility for immigration, told the Department of Information and Public Relations that Cabinet, at its meeting of July 13, 2011, unanimously approved the second-term appointment of Mr. Anthony as chairman. Other members who were re-appointed include Messrs.

Charles Mercer, Milton Creque, and Daniel Cline, Mrs. Rosalia Gardner, Mrs. Kirlin Lettsome and Ms. Anthea Smith. Mrs. Joyce Winter has been appointed member for the first time. At an introductory meeting with the board members on August 26, Premier O’Neal said given the government’s priority on immigration matters, he is confident they will fulfill the mandate of the board in accordance with the Immigration and Passport Ordinance (CAP. 130).

Among its many responsibilities, the Board of Immigration is charged with advising government on all questions regarding the entry of persons into the Territory and the residence and occupation of persons who do not belong to the Territory.

Section 13 (1) and (8) of the Immigration and Passport Ordinance (Cap. 130), as amended by the Immigration and Passport (Amendment) Act 2000, provides that there shall be a Board of Immigration comprising eight members to hold office for a period of two years from the date of appointment. The Chief Immigration Officer is as an ex-officio member of the board.
