Press Release (SKNIS)

BASSETERRE St. Kitts, September 06th 2011 (SKNIS) - Positions for an Implementation Project Coordinator and a Trade Development Officer are currently available as part of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) Implementation Unit in St. Kitts and Nevis.

St. Kitts and Nevis signed on to the Caribbean Forum (CARIFORUM)-European Community (EC) EPA in 2008, and this agreement along with the Caribbean Single Market and Economy (CSME) entitle the Federation to significant trade and investment opportunities for local businesses.  As a result, the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis is establishing an EPA Implementation Unit to coordinate efforts to diversify and expand exports and take advantage of the trade and investment opportunities available through EPA and CSME.  This Unit will be responsible for developing a National EPA Implementation Road Map and Action Plan after consultation with the relevant stakeholders.

The EPA Implementation Project Coordinator will therefore have to report to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Trade and coordinate the work leading to the development of the Road Map and the implementation of the Action Plan.  A Communications Plan to increase awareness of the EPA as well as a Resource Mobilization Plan will also have to be initiated.

Duties also include submitting timely reports to the Caribbean Development Bank which will be administering the funding.  This money is the result of a grant provided by the Caribbean Aid for Trade and Regional Integration Trust Fund (CARTFund).  It is financed by the United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID).

The EPA Trade Development Officer is responsible for assisting the EPA Implementation Coordinator with his/her duties, chiefly assisting with the development of the Road Map, the Action Plan and Communications Plan.

Both the EPA Implementation Project Coordinator and EPA Trade Development Officer have to possess the necessary qualifications and experience as well as submit applications to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Trade by the deadline of September 30, 2011.  Further information pertaining to necessary degrees, practical skill and application submissions can be obtained by contacting the Ministry of Trade at 467-1098 or emailing foreigntrade@gov.kn.
