Home Grown Festival gets a boost of $10,000

By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts- AS the date draws closer for the rebirth of the third staging of the Home Grown Music Festival to be held on September 16 and 17, Digicel, yesterday (Sep. 7), handed over a cheque for ECD10 000 to the organizers at a press conference held at Ocean Terrace Inn and encouraged everyone to ‘big up’ their own.

Upon handing over the cheque Jeanille Osborne congratulated the Festival committee for committing their hard work and time to the Event, adding that she knows that it will be a very good product.

“Very often we do not ‘big up’ our own and I am just inviting everyone out. We should consider the local artistes as heroes in the music industry on this upcoming National Heroes Day,” said Osborne.

She declared that Digicel, ‘the bigger better network’, is proud to be a major sponsor of the event and indicated that they would be there in grand style painting Verchilds RED, along with their many give-a-ways.

According to the Director and brainchild behind the event, Crucial Bankie, he is passionate about the event and although there have been some gaps in getting artistes together, they are hoping to put on two nights of great talent.

He said he would like everyone to come out because it is free and will feature top performers from the Federation.

Bankie indicated that the two days will be a great big Independence party, where the entire family could not only enjoy music but local food as well.

He added that there will be two stages grounded at the venue, to prevent a lackluster lull at the event between change-overs.

Romeo Parris who is the Promotions Manager was also present; he urged corporations and the business community to join hands with them.

Parris stressed that the Home Grown Festival is a movement which must be supported as they are trying to provide a channel for the youths.

Friday night will see artistes such as Nicha B, Infamus and Footsy along with the Green House Band and the Nu Vybes band International.

On Saturday veterans such as Masud Sadiki, Ayatola, Anastasia, King Pungwa along with Crucial Bankie himself and the Grand Masters Band will perform.

A number of folklore activities will be featured in the daytime, while the grounds will also be complete with vendors, bars, public toilets and two dance tents that will kick off with DJ-music from 2:00 a.m.

    Events each day will run from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and then from 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
