Press Release

ST.GEORGE’S, Grenada, September 8th, 2011 -- The Government of Grenada has extended congratulations to the Government and people of Brazil on the commemoration of its 189th anniversary of Independence.

A message, from Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas to Her Excellency Dilma Rousseff, President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, said Grenada “looks forward” to the strengthening of relations between the two states.

The following is the full text of the message.

“On behalf of the Government and people of Grenada, I am pleased to extend hearty and sincere congratulations to you, the Government and the people of the Federative Republic of Brazil on the occasion of the commemoration of your 189th year as an independent nation.

The celebration of your 189th anniversary of independence is fitting of a country with a rich history and culture, and an admirable present which indicates a prosperous future.

As a relatively young nation, Grenada commends its Brazilian brothers and sisters for their display of national pride and dignity, which serves as a testament to what can be achieved through the fortitude and diligence epitomized by the Brazilian State.

Grenada applauds Brazilians on this joyous occasion and looks forward to even closer relations, as we continue to build upon a tradition of mutual respect and cooperation.

In this regard, I take this opportunity to wish you an enjoyable and meaningful National Day.  Please accept, Madam President, my very best wishes for your personal well being and for the continued prosperity of your country.”

Grenada and Brazil established diplomatic relations on 19th July, 1976.
