BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AFTER walking down various runways strutting her stuff and being featured as the model on many event posters, Amelia Browne has now taken on the role of an artiste in the local music industry.
According to Browne, who has been a model with the Movado Modeling Agency for over one year, she started singing professionally under the SKN Entertainment Music label about a year ago.
Although she has not yet made any public performances she released her first track some months ago titled ‘Ready Made Man’ which speaks about women standing up for what they want in a man and not settling for anything less.
Described as being weird by her friends and other individuals, Browne said she takes kindly to the name, because her favourite colour is black and if she wears a skirt she always completes it with black stockings.
She, however, defines her personality as quiet, different and fun-loving.
Although she has graced many stages showing off her physique, Browne said she has been asked on several occasions to enter the National Queen Pageant but has always declined. She said she is not ‘into’ pageants and hates competition because she is very ‘soft’.
“When I was in school I used to take part in track and field and I had to come first or I would cry,” she stated.
The petite model grew up with her grandmother who often took her to church, where she got involved in singing. She noted that she spent a lot of time traveling back and forth between St. Kitts and St. Martin visiting her parents.
The 26-year-old indicated that singing is her first love and modeling was never her interest but she gave it a shot because she was asked by a cousin on behalf of a friend.
When she is not engaged in ‘ripping runways’ and polishing tracks with her melodious voice, she often enjoys dancing, another hidden talent she possesses.
According to her she often meditates to the sounds of her favourite artistes which include India Arie and Morgan Heritage.
Browne said that she is hoping to reach as far as she could with her music, spreading positive messages. She classifies her songs as ‘soulful’ and ‘different’.
“I want when people listen to my music they are empty and then feel full,” said the smiling beauty.
If her face does not seem familiar from the local modeling industry, Brown can also be remembered from being a backup singer for Rolhensha at Miss Talented Teen Pageant and with Pepper Ranks at the St. Kitts Music Festival.
She said since she came out as an artiste many people have been shocked and asking why she waited so long to bring that side of her to the public.
The model/singer recently released another track she penned titled ‘Thank You Jah’ on the ‘Wave Break’ riddim that was produced by her manager Kelvin ‘DJ Kells’ Christopher.
Browne indicated that since she was brought up in the church and knows how important it is to give thanks, she wanted to relay that message to everyone - that in everything, give thanks no matter how simple it may be.
‘Thank You Jah’ carries a music video that was released late last month and was also produced by DJ Kells.
The New Town resident said she is always in the studio working on new tracks so the public can expect more singles, more videos and hopefully, her debut for her solo stage performances as Brownie.
She stated that she would continue doing both modeling and singing, because she loves singing and thinks that with the help of her modeling it would build her stage confidence as an artiste and help her to live up to her motto which is ‘The sky is the limit’
