    Earthquake Epicentre
(Port-of-Spain) --- On Wednesday Northern parts of Trinidad including Port-of-Spain, Bamboo Settlement, Santa Cruz, Maraval and St. Helena were shaken by a 4.1 scale earthquake.

According to seismologist Joan Latchman of the Seismic Research Unit at the University of the West Indies (UWI) the earthquake occurred at 4:31 p.m. and the epicenter was 110 km west of Port-of-Spain with a depth of 94 kilometers.

Latchman further noted the country’s location within a seismically active area and from this backdrop urged members of the general population to be prepared in an ongoing fashion.

No reports of damage incurred by the earthquake were made and reportedly the tremor was not felt in sister isle Tobago.

The earthquake comes on the heels of the 7.3 magnitude earthquake that originated off the east coast of Martinique and which hit the region on November 29, 2007. Reportedly it was the second largest to ever hit the region.
