Charity Walk 2009-Post Walk Cool Down
Press Release

BASSETERRE St.Kitts, September 14th, 2011 -- The annual celebration of Independence Day is especially poignant for the members, friends and supporters of the People’s Action Movement. The indelible mark of history will forever record that this party played the singular and significant role of shepherding this young nation to political independence.

As such, the event has special added meaning for the PAM and is always celebrated in grand style. The highlight of the annual celebration is the gala dinner and ball.

This elegant black tie extravaganza is normally held the night before the Independence Day holiday in order to enjoy the countdown to midnight which is greeted with a flag raising and singing of the national anthem however, this year’s event will be held on the Saturday 17th so as not to conflict with evening services at churches.

In honour of National Heroes Day the Party will hold its traditional sponsored walk which will be in aid of charity. In this event, the young and young at heart will enjoy a brisk and enervating early morning walk along with the camaderie of reconnecting with old friends and meeting new ones.

This year’s walk however will have an extra special twist because it will culminate in a block party in celebration of the exceptional achievements of Kim Collins and the St.Kitts-Nevis Team at the recently held World Championships in Daegu, Korea.

This block party will be held in Market Street by Jabo shop and will be an all day affair in recognition of our sporting ambassador Kim and his Team SKN including Antoine Adams, Delwayne Delaney, Jason Rogers amd Brijish Lawrence.

The Independence Day holiday will be marked with the resurgence of the Lockhart Street Festival. This day long event will feature a fun fair for children, Caribbean buffet and competitions in dominoes and other local games.
“This weekend will certainly be an exciting one for the party as we have organised  anumber of events to celebrate our 28th Anniversary of Independence ,” said Party Leader Lindsay Grant

“Our Charity Walk and Ball are both highly anticipated staples of the party calendar of events and this year we expect both to be even bigger and better than usual. We have added two more events to our usual weekend of activities with a Block Party on Market Street on National Heroes day in honor of Kim Collins and Team SKN and the Lockahrt Street Festival on Independence Day where the full length of lockhart street will be transformed into a mini-carnival type atmosphere with food, games, drinks and live entertainment,” Grant continued

The Lockhart Street Festival begins at 10am on Independence Day while the annual walk begins at 6am in Sandy Point. Transportation will be provided to Sandy Point from Independence Square  at 5:30am.
