Press Release

ROADTOWN TortolaBVI, September 14th, 2011 – The Ministry of Natural Resources and Labour will on Friday host an Anegada Lands Allocation Signing Ceremony to present titles to approximately 40 individuals who have met the eligibility criteria for land allocation in the ‘West End’ and ‘North Airport’ sub-divisions on Anegada.

The persons will receive freehold titles to lands for residential purposes only. Minister for Natural Resources and Labour Honourable Omar W. Hodge said, “The Ministry is very committed to distributing the land titles and moving forward on this important matter.

I am very glad of the hard work put forth by the team and the cooperation of the people of Anegada in making this signing a reality.” The Lands Minster added, “Land and homeownership is part of our heritage as Virgin Islanders and should be preserved for present and future generations.”

The awardees were granted land titles under one of three categories: persons recommended by the Anegada Lands Development Committee; descendants of Anegadians residing in the Virgin Islands with no claim to land; or descendants of Anegadians residing overseas with no claim to land.

Other qualified applicants are being considered for future land allocations in Anegada. The Ministry is responsible for the distribution of available land at Great Hill, Virgin Gorda and at Spooner’s Estate, Tortola. In the past, the Ministry has distributed land at the MacNamara, Horsepath, Stevens and Nibbs Estate sub-divisions on Tortola.

The Anegada Lands Allocation Signing Ceremony will honour a commitment made by the Government to the people of Anegada to streamline land distribution and foster development on the sister island.
