Excitement in the air for second Latin Fiesta

By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IF the enthusiasm continues, all roads would lead to the South East Peninsular to the exquisite Spice Mill restaurant on October 9 for the second annual Latin Fiesta being held in the Federation by Kajola-Kristada LTD.

During a press conference held earlier this morning Michelle Demming, one of the organizers of the event explained that the purpose of the Latin Fiesta is to increase the awareness and improve the relationship between Latin countries and the people of the Federation.

After the success of last year’s event, organizers have promised an even richer musical experience with the Latin Fusion band.

Demming said their expectation for this year is much higher than that of last year; she indicated they expected to double the amount of patrons by encouraging everyone to come out and enjoy the event.

General Manager of Kajola-Kristada Ltd, Josa Rosa said the influence of Latin people in the Federation needs to be recognised.

He said one objective of the event is to create relationships and togetherness and the event would present opportunities for Kittitians and Nevisians to do so.

Rosa stressed the fact that there are many similarities between the people of St. Kitts and the Latin people.

The Fiesta will kick off with an extravagant opening dance sequence called ‘Bomba’ by members of Areyto, the Puerto Rican national folkloric ballet.  The General Manager explained that it was an interactive dance, one which he guaranteed people would enjoy and join in.

The Fusion Latina Band, which has over 20 years of experience and has played alongside the likes of popular Latin artiste Mark Anthony would then take over and thrill the patrons with their music.

Rosa said although many people may not understand the lyrics, the rhythm would sure make them dance as the root of latin music hails from Africa.

Roger Brisbane of Spice Mill, who also shared in creating this brainchild, stated that he is proud to be a part of the Latin Fiesta and added that it was one of their best events last year.

He said Spice Mill is the perfect venue for this event because of its beautiful location and amazing backdrop.

Brisbane said a special Latin menu would be created along with a suckling pig that would be roasted at the venue Latin style.

He went on to mention that there would be a bigger dance floor this year and a Latin Fiesta countdown beginning this Sunday until the actual event.

Brisbane urged everyone to come out and enjoy the event as they believe it could help to increase tourism and even become an event on the tourism calendar as many persons are already been scheduled to be flown into the Federation.

The sponsors include Fritolay, Formosa Garden Restaurant, Heineken, Carambola Beach Club, Sol E’ Mar, UPS, Shiggidy Shack, St. Kitts Marriott Resort and the Conquering Storm Shutters.

Latin Fiesta begins at 1:30 p.m. and climaxes in the evening with the pulsating rhythms of Salsa, Merengue, Jazz as well as a salsa competition and more.

The event cost is only EC$25, which includes one complimentary drink. Also, VIP tickets are available at EC$100, and includes a drink, a delicious buffet meal and secure seating.

Tickets can be purchased at Kajola Kristada Ltd, Spice Mill and Harpers.

Free transportation provided for those without vehicles or those not wanting to drive. The buses will make pick ups at the Independence Square at 12:30 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. as well as at the Frigate Bay lawn at 1:15 p.m. and 2:20 p.m.
