    “What Christmas means to me…”

    Miss Kimberly Tyson
    Basseterre, St. Kitts:
With just a few hours to go before the dawn of Christmas Day 2007, SKNVibes.com took to the streets to find out from people what Christmas means to them and what their attention will be focused on for the season.

While most persons appeared bashful, there were the selected few who offered comments on their understanding of the meaning of Christmas and their plans for “the big day”.

“Christmas represents the birth of Christ.  At this time, many people are thinking about buying gifts but are suppose to remain focused on the real reason for the season and that if Christ  because without Christ, there is no Christmas,” Camella Jeffers, a primary school teacher said.

Kimberly Tyson explained, “Christmas to me is where everyone gets together to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.  Tomorrow, I will be singing and cooking and I will be celebrating with my family.”

“Christmas is a time of sharing and caring and giving and receiving and this year and I will be sharing, caring, giving and receiving,” Latoya Abrams said.  ~~Adz:Right~~

Another lady, who prefers to remain anonymous, said that she awaits the day when persons would “come back to the real reason for the Christmas season.”

“Every year, we run about buying Christmas goodies, decorating our houses and singing the praises of ‘Santa Clause’.  It hurts me to see that amidst all of this, we fail to understand that we are to be celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.  We have replaced the Christ in Christmas with an “X” and turned it into ‘Xmas’.  I don’t mind the celebration just as long as it is centered on the real reason for the season, Jesus Christ,” she said.

Another woman, who also spoke on condition of anonymity, explained that she never did believe in Christmas and claims that she never will.

“I just don’t believe in Christmas.  I have heard many things since I was a little girl and they don’t seem to be true so I don’t believe in Christmas and until I am convinced otherwise, I will probably not believe in Christmas,” she stated.
