Basseterre, St. Kitts: The Queen Anastasia successfully defended her Female Calypso title last night, December 27th, at Carnival and in so doing rewrote the history books by becoming the first female to capture the title three years in a row.
Anastasia, whose real name is Tonicia Hodge-Martin, showed pure class and delivered her two tunes, “The Deal” and “Only Ten”, with such clarity and melody that she grasped the crowd’s support from the onset.
The young female calypsonian, who is affectionately referred to as the “the People’s Queen” has been a main staple on the Calypso circuit in recent years and solidified her status as one of the island’s leading calypsonians with her fantastic performance.
The First Runner up spot was captured by Unoma “Lady Sunshine” Allen, who has been in calypso circles for just about two years. ~~Adz:Right~~
Anastasia and Lady Sunshine have already booked their spot in the National Calypso final, slated for December 29th.
The Second Runner up spot was captured by Queen Kibie and the Third Runner up position went to Singing Jackie, both veterans in the calypso arena.
Nine female calypsonians competed against Queen Anastasia for the title.
