{Basseterre; St. Kitts} 2007 ended with a fatal traffic accident and the new year, 2008, was ushered in with yet more traffic tragedy as another person lost their life.

The two deceased persons are Samuel Phillip, seventy year old resident of Lodge Village and Natasha Shea Byron, a 28 year old female from Pond’s Extension.

Phillip was involved in an accident around 10 p.m. on December 31st while Shea was involved in an accident at approximately 6:30 a.m., on January 1, 2008.

According to a Police Press Release, Phillip was involved in a three vehicle accident in the Brighton area, just outside of Cayon. He was driving P 5070.

The other two vehicles were PA 456, a motor bus owned by the Rivers of Living Waters Church and driven by Amelia Harris, and PA 4470, a motor car driven by Elston Michael.

According to reports, P 5070 and PA 456 were travelling toward the Basseterre area and PA 4470 was travelling in the opposite direction when the collision occurred.

Phillip and Harris were transported to the Joseph N France General Hospital where they were treated for their injuries.

However, Phillip succumbed to his and died.

In the other accident, Natasha Shea Byron was driving a rental jeep, R 491, from Bird Rock toward the Bypass Road area when she lost control of the vehicle.

The vehicle ploughed through the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank parking lot, flipped several times, ploughed through a fence of one of the bank’s properties and then came to a stop on the lawn.

Reportedly, the impact of the crash forced Shea, the only passenger in the vehicle, out on the ground.

The EMS responded to the accident but the young lady succumbed to her injuries shortly after, at the Joseph N. France General Hospital.

Investigations into both accidents are ongoing.
