Police Press Release
Electoral Reform Controversy; Ms Laureen James charged with "Obstruction"

~~Adz:Left~~ {Basseterre; St. Kitts} On January 3rd 2007 following a report made to the Police of an individual remaining at the Electoral Office on Central Street after being asked to leave, the Police responded and met Laureen James of Verchilds seated in a chair in the waiting area of the said office.

Given the small size of the space available to persons doing business, Ms. James was asked to leave the building and to conduct her private business from the outside.  She refused to leave and was taken in Police Custody to prevent further obstruction.  Police met and held discussions with Mr. Lindsay Grant who came to the Basseterre Police to enquire about Ms. James’ status.

Mr. Grant agreed to have his agents operate from the outside of the building until the Supervisor of Elections and the chairman of the Electoral Commission make a final determination on how to accommodate Mr. Grant’s request to have his agents on the inside, as a result Ms. James was released without charge.
