108 Medical Students arrive in Nevis for new semester

~~Adz:Left~~ Charlestown, Nevis: The Medical University of the Americas (MUA) was a hub of activity yesterday as 108 students were welcomed and oriented by MUA staff, faculty members and a cross-section of relevant Nevis institutions’ representatives.
The students will be housed at the Pot Works and Rawlins Pasture dorms during the first semester (January to March).
Sharon Lescot, MUA administrator, said after the first semester the students will rent out their own apartments and she also took the opportunity to encourage landlords to contact the university.
“There is always a demand for housing,” she said.
Police officers spoke to the students about procedures they should know about when they purchase vehicles, scooters and motorbikes also told them about fines that are imposed should they break any of the traffic regualtions.
“Do not leave the scene of accident. Get the police involved. Accidents must be reported within 24 hours,” Constable James Hazel told the students.
“Don’t drink and drive,” he warned.
Representatives from the RBTT Bank also informed the students about available banking services.
Other services they were informed of included the gym at the Pot Works dorms, catering services at the college’s cafeteria, community outreach, existence of a MUA cricket team, and spouses of students club, yoga sessions and Internet providers.
Dr Jay Turkewitin, Associate Dean of Basic Sciences, told the students to respect the procedures and regulations of the island.
“We are guests on this island. These simple things are crucial,” he noted.
