BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – An elderly man perished last evening (Sept. 18) in a fire which had engulfed his St. Pauls home.

Identified as 77-year-old Patrick Brian of Leader Avenue, St. Pauls, the man, according to Fire and Rescue Services officials, was discovered in his home after the department was called in to quench the blaze.

An official from the Fire Department told SKNVibes that about 11:40 p.m. (Sept. 18), the Sandy Point Fire Station received a call indicating that a dwelling place was ablaze and when the unit got there, it sprang into action and was successful in extinguishing the fiery fury.

The flames, according to the fire official, had engulfed the entire 20 x 15 foot wooden structure by the time they had arrived on the scene.

A search of the gutted dwelling place, as the official explained, revealed one occupant, Brian, in his bed and badly burnt.

SKNVibes understands that the cause of the fire is yet unknown. However, members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force were called to the scene and investigations into the occurrence began.

It is also understood that District Medical Officer (DMO) Dr. Oduntun was called to the scene and after examining the body, pronounced Brian dead.

The Coroner was informed of the incident and gave permission for the body to be removed after which it was transported to a funeral home.

Further investigations into the incident are being made.
