    Autopsy Reveals Police Officer Dies From Asphyxia

    Ex Police Constable, Patrice Grant
     (Tortola; BVI);
    An autopsy report has revealed that Patrice Grant, an ex police constable who was incarcerated for the attempted murder of the British Virgin Island’s ex- Commissioner of Police, died as a result of asphyxiation.
     
    The autopsy was performed by Pathologist Dr. Dupree of the United States Virgin Islands on Wednesday, Jan. 3.
     
    The BVI Police were summoned to Her Majesty’s Prison at Balsum Ghaut, Tortola, sometime after 10 a.m. on Dec. 31, 2007, after Grant’s body was found hanging on a bed linen from his cell roof.
     
    No foul play is suspected in Grant’s apparent suicide death but the Police are still conducting investigations.
     
    Grant was serving a 14 year sentence, after he pleaded guilty to the attempted murder of ex-Commissioner of Police, Barry Webb, on October 21, 2004. He was sentenced to 14 years in prison for the offence.
     
    ~~Adz:Right~~ Grant held the commissioner and his staff officer, Bill Johnny, hostage for over a half an hour in the commissioner’s office.
     
    The commissioner received a bullet wounds to his neck, which damaged his windpipe, left leg and left hand.
     
    The day before the shooting, Grant was suspended from duties in connection with charges relating to domestic violence and was placed on bail by the Magistrates Court according to sources.
     
    Grant joined the police force in July 1998. He spent sometime in the US  but was reinstated in March 2004.
     
    He was married with three children.
