Press Release

St. George's, Grenada, September 16th, 2011 -- The New National Party calls on the Government to address the overall economic situation of the country  In the face of this, the attempt to deal with the wages of some of the lower income workers in the work force is a start and cannot be misconstrued as a solution.

Of the twelve categories of workers mentioned, the lowest category, the road workers whose salary was cut by the NDC upon assuming office was not addressed, needless to say the public workers, the police, the teachers and all other sectors, whom we know are feeling the effects of the crisis.

We are cognizant, however; of the difficulties all our people are faced with at this time, and appreciate that the employees at the lower end of the income scale must be finding it even more difficult to make ends meet. We
are also mindful of the hardships being experienced by the Business community due to the poor economic climate.

Under these circumstances, we are of the view that no effort should be spared in ensuring that at the end of it all, the employees, the Business owners and the country as a whole emerge as winners.

All parties should therefore sit down and find a common ground where the workers, whom the Government has the responsibility to protect, as well as the Business Community, for whom government must create a conducive business environment, are given the full consideration due to them before any decision is taken.

We caution that if all the facts are not taken on board, there could be negative consequences for all concerned. .
