ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, September 18, 2011 -- How it works, Minister Hodge explained, is that a developer will build several units, with the financial backings of Government and the final product is the keys which will be handed over to residents at a “very affordable rate”.

A pilot project will be embarked upon so as to ensure all aspects of the programme run like a “well-oiled machine” Minister Hodge said.

According to the Natural Resources and Labour Minister, due to the “economic will of the administration finances” the developers will use their own funds to build but Government will pay them as they go. He also disclosed that the buildings will be constructed on Crown lands.

“That is why we are trying to give out all this land here so that people will have the privilege to go to the bank with a guarantee from the Cabinet so the contractors would not have too much of a problem and the liability for Government will just be minimal,” Hon. Hodge told Virgin Islands News Online.

Though it may kick start until next year, the Minister is optimistic that whoever is elected the plan is such a beautiful one – it will be executed.
